Cheer On the Explorers of Tomorrow at the NASA Rover Challenge
Come have an out-of-this-world weekend with NASA's Rover Challenge, the fun and educational event happening at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center! This engineering design challenge invites students to test their know-how and decision-making skills as they design, construct, and test mock space rovers and race their way through a challenging, fun-filled course.
Get a sense of the trials and obstacles facing NASA’s current plans to explore planets, moons, asteroids and comets at this incredible competition. Participating students will develop their own human-powered rovers to carry two students, one female and one male, over a half-mile obstacle course of simulated extraterrestrial terrain of craters, boulders, ridges, inclines, crevasses and depressions. Each student team of six members is responsible for building their own rover, and the two course drivers must be chosen from the team. As a part of the challenge, and before traversing the course, unassembled rover entries must be carried by the drivers to the course starting line where they will be assembled, readied for racing, and evaluated for safety. This enriching challenge gives students the opportunity to learn about these different, off-world environments and provides valuable experiences that engage students in the technologies and concepts that will be needed in future exploration missions.
Whether you’re participating in the race or watching the excitement from the sidelines, this NASA-sponsored activity is sure to be a thrilling event. Come cheer on the innovators of tomorrow at the NASA Rover Challenge!
